John E. "Ned" Walker

John E. "Ned" Walker is senior vice president and chief communications officer responsible for external communication, media relations and employee communications throughout Delta’s global system, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Since joining Delta in October 2008, Ned has led a cross-divisional effort to ensure consistent messaging with internal and external audiences. Ned was a key contributor to Delta’s successful merger integration following its acquisition of Northwest Airlines as well as the airline’s reinvigorated values-based culture.  In employee surveys conducted in spring 2012, a majority of Delta employees indicated an understanding of the company’s mission and values.  During Ned’s tenure, Delta topped the 2011 airline industry list of Fortune’s most admired companies and was listed No. 1 among the top 10 airlines in North America in a report from Heardable, an organization that measures online brand performance.

In 1996, Ned was named Employee Communications All-Star by Inside PR and was recognized for helping to transform Continental's once-authoritarian corporate culture into a more employee-friendly environment.

Ned joined Delta after a nearly 22 years at Continental Airlines where he served as senior vice president of corporate communications. Ned began his aviation career with Frontier Horizon, a Frontier Airlines' subsidiary. He previously was a journalist with The Chicago Tribune-owned KWGN-TV in Denver.

Ned serves on the Advisory Council of the College of Communications at the University of Texas at Austin.  He was chairman of the visitor relations subcommittee for the Super Bowl XXXVIII Host Committee.

Ned holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
