Delta is working to position itself as New York City’s leading carrier, and has made major investments across the tri-state region, boosting its economic impact to more than $13 billion annually. Delta is the only carrier operating two hubs in New York - a domestic hub at LaGuardia Airport and an international hub at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Delta and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently partnered on a $1.4 billion project to enhance and expand Terminal 4 at JFK, creating a state-of-the-art facility for Delta's customers. Delta also completed an investment of more than $100 million to upgrade and enhance its facilities at LaGuardia.

Delta's history in New York dates to 1937, when Pan Am began service to Port Washington, N.Y.
1940 - Pan Am transfers operations to LaGuardia.
1945 - Northwest Airlines begins serving LaGuardia.
1946 - Northeast Airlines begins shuttle service from Boston to LaGuardia.
1956 - Delta-branded aircraft begin serving Newark, N.J., using 70-passenger Douglas DC-7 propeller planes.
1957 - Delta service begins at Idlewild Airport (now site of John F. Kennedy International Airport) with DC-7s.
1960 - Pan Am’s saucer-shaped Terminal 3 opens at Idlewild. Delta is a sub-tenant in the United Airlines Terminal.
1962 - Idlewild’s Terminal 2 opens as the Northwest, Braniff and Northeast Airlines terminal.
1969 - Delta begins service to LaGuardia with DC-9 jets.
1972 - Northeast Airlines merges with Delta, which consolidates JFK operations in Terminal 2.
1978 - Delta completes a $3.2 million modernization effort at LaGuardia.
1983 - Delta opens it’s $90 million flight center at LaGuardia. Considered the world’s most modern airline terminal, it could handle new wide-body jets such as the Boeing 767.
1984 - Delta Connection regional service starts at Newark, JFK and LaGuardia.
1991 - Delta acquires Pan Am’s shuttle and trans-Atlantic routes, becoming major presence at JFK with 34 direct flights to destinations around the world.
2008 - Delta acquires Northwest Airlines.
2010 - Delta and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey break ground on $1.4 billion project to enhance and expand Terminal 4 at JFK and create state-of-the art facility. Delta launches hourly service to O’Hare International Airport, creating LaGuardia’s leading shuttle to Chicago, Boston and Washington, D.C.
2011 - The Department of Transportation approves an agreement between Delta and US Airways to swap landing rights in Washington, D.C., and New York, with Delta gaining 132 slot pairs at LaGuardia. Delta will spend $100 million to renovate Terminal C, adding 700 jobs and providing expanded connecting service to smaller cities in Upstate New York.
Delta is the largest global carrier at New York-JFK, operating a major international hub with 143 peak-day departures to 78 worldwide destinations, including nonstop service to 32 international destinations.
Delta was the first major U.S. carrier to serve Africa nonstop from New York, and today operates service to Accra, Ghana; Dakar, Senegal; and Monrovia, Liberia (via Accra).
At LaGuardia, Delta operates the city's leading Shuttle product to Boston, Washington, D.C., and Chicago O'Hare.
While smaller than its LaGuardia and JFK hubs, Delta also offers robust service at Newark Liberty International Airport, with 30 daily flights including nonstop international service to Amsterdam.
During the last four years, Delta has created more than 2,000 jobs across New York state, invested heavily in New York sponsorships and advertising and completed more than $70 million in facility upgrades at JFK's Terminals 2 and 3.
In November 2011, Delta and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey broke ground on a $1.4 billion expansion of Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Completion of phase one and relocation of Delta's Terminal 3 operations to Terminal 4 completed recently in May 2013.
