Planespotters, avgeeks, casual enthusiasts and all appreciators of things with wings: here's your heads up on where you can possibly find a Delta 747-400 through Jan. 2 before they're gone from the skies forever, thanks to sporting events that rely on Delta's charter business.

"It's only fitting that the Queen of Skies finishes her career with Delta carrying teams on to victory, said Bill Wernecke, Managing Director — Charter Sales and Operations. "The 747 has been excellent ambassador to our military, sports teams and corporate customers, and it has been an honor for our employees that flew, served, loaded, maintained and sold flights on this aircraft."

The Airline of Champions will carry teams who have either won championships or played for championships of their sport.

From now through Jan. 2, the following airports will be part of the final Delta 747-400 sports charter operations:

  • Atlanta
  • Buffalo
  • Dallas-Fort Worth
  • Detroit
  • Newark
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Greenville-Spartanburg
  • Los Angeles
  • New Orleans
  • San Diego
  • Seattle

Keep an eye on @DeltaNewsHub on Twitter through Jan. 2 for more hints to when you might be lucky enough to spot one.
