This Memorial Day weekend, more than 5,000 members of the National Guard shared a meal from Kuwait with families at home in Minnesota, through Delta's partnership with Serving Our Troops.

In a very special mission for deployed soldiers at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Serving Our Troops partnered with the Minnesota National Guard to host families and friends of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division at the Saint Paul RiverCentre for a fantastic – and early – steak dinner Saturday.

The meal in St. Paul was served in conjunction with an overseas meal prepared by Minnesota celebrity chefs and served in Kuwait to deployed soldiers of the National Guard. The events were connected via live international video.

Delta has been a proud partner in this mission for over a decade, and this year leaders from MSP accompanied the chefs and team to Kuwait for this special dinner.  Ben Humphrey, John Klinger, Steven Harris and Willie Franklin departed from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this week to meet the troops overseas.

"Serving our troop is so much more than a simple meal," CBS Minneapolis reported in their coverage of the event, sharing the stories that connect MSP families. "It's about community."

Jeff Davidman, Delta Vice President - Government Affairs, said after the dinner, "Our mission at Delta is to connect the world, and I can't think of an event or a cause that better symbolizes that goal then Serving Our Troops and this event today. It is a simple concept, it is about 'dinner with the family,' and that is what everyone is here for. To connect loved ones who are separated around the world – and that is what we strive to do every day at Delta."

Since 2004, Serving Our Troops has been sending a special message for our soldiers and families in the form of a 12-ounce steak from home. The 100,000th steak was served on May 25 while making some very special connections between soldiers serving overseas, and their family and friends back home.

Delta has partnered in several events supporting the military over the past week and Memorial Day weekend, including the dedication of two new Fisher Houses and Fleet Week in New York, as well as providing Delta Honor Guard support all year long.
