ATLANTA, April 25, 2007 – In celebration of the 25th anniversary of its frequent flyer program, Delta honored individuals and partners who have made significant contributions to the success of SkyMiles during an event at corporate headquarters on April 20. The SkyMiles program is recognized as one of the longest-running and most successful airline loyalty programs in the world.

Additionally, the airline concluded the SkyMiles 25th Anniversary Sweepstakes with the support of Avis Rent A Car System, LLC and awarded Saturn SKY Roadsters to 25 sweepstakes winners.

“The SkyMiles program continues to serve as a significant component of Delta and a strategic part of our marketing plan,” said Jeff Robertson, managing director of the SkyMiles program. “I’m pleased to honor the dedicated employees, partners and customers who have helped to drive the longevity and success of the program.”

Delta’s most loyal and well-traveled SkyMiles member, David Shafer, was awarded special recognition at the ceremony based on his being a Delta Platinum Medallion member since 1994 and the SkyMiles program’s first 10 Million Miler. Additionally, internal recipients of the SkyMiles 25th Anniversary Special Recognition Award were nominated by peers and Delta colleagues in a company-wide selection process. The recipients were:

  • Cindy Chesna - For outstanding contributions to customer service and SkyMiles support
  • Rob Grady - For outstanding contributions to partnership and creating more, innovative ways for members to earn miles
  • Jim Hughey – For outstanding SkyMiles technology expertise
  • Kevin Pinto – For numerous years of outstanding contributions to the SkyMiles program
  • Debbie Schneider – For outstanding contribution as the liaison between SkyMiles, Reservation Sales and Marketing

“Through the years, the SkyMiles program has evolved to become one of Delta’s top purchase drivers, offering new ways to earn miles with our partnerships, growing network and international SkyTeam Alliance,” said Jim Whitehust, Delta’s chief operating officer. “We look forward to providing our members with additional mileage earning and redemption opportunities as we continue to expand the program’s reach to new destinations throughout the world.”
