Delta and its employees contributed an unprecedented $1.7 million this year to help United Way improve the lives of all individuals through programs that provide educational resources, day-to-day stability, good nutrition and access to healthcare.
“Taking care of people is a core value here at Delta, and our people are proud to support the communities where they live and work,” said Steve Sear, Delta's Senior Vice President. – Global Sales and representative on the Board of Directors of United Way of Greater Atlanta.
The focus of this year’s United Way campaign was child well-being, and it kicked off in September with the “Pack the Plane” event, where Delta employees filled backpacks with school supplies for underprivileged children. Tens of thousands of backpacks were loaded up and donated to schools across the Delta system.
To follow up on the success of the “Pack the Plane” event, Delta hosted or sponsored a variety of fundraising efforts, including:
- A drive to encourage employees to enroll in payroll deductions
- An online auction
- Several volunteer events
- Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s Inaugural 5K on the 5th Runway
“Delta and United Way have partnered for more than 30 years to support United Way’s mission. We’ve earned our reputation for generously supporting important causes as our commitment to community is rooted in our culture and is key to our corporate social responsibility,” Sear said.
