Kids from Kelso Elementary in Inglewood, Calif., met Delta people from Community Affairs and LAX Airport Customer Service and In-Flight Service earlier this week when they gathered to kick off planning for their dream playground.
This playground, the 10th built by Delta in partnership with KaBOOM! (and the third one in the Los Angeles area), will create a space for more than 600 K-6th grade students at the school located just a few miles from LAX.
Monday’s “Design Day” gave Kelso students the opportunity to talk to teams from Delta and KaBOOM! about what they would like to see in their new playground. Features and equipment for the playground will be selected using many of the kids’ ideas and drawings.
More than 125 Delta employees will participate in the playground build on April 30.
To date, Delta has donated $90,000 to community partners through KaBOOM! builds in Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Seattle. Delta will build nine additional playgrounds with KaBOOM! this year.
KaBOOM! is the national non-profit dedicated to giving all kids – particularly those growing up in poverty in America – the childhood they deserve filled with balanced and active play so they can thrive. Since 1996, KaBOOM! has collaborated with partners to build, open or improve over 16,300 playgrounds, engaged more than one million volunteers and served 8.1 million kids.
