Basic Economy fare product is now available on more than 50 percent of Delta’s flights between the U.S. and Mexico, including several new Guadalajara and Mexico City flights. Leisure destinations that already feature Basic Economy include Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel. The expansion comes as joint cooperation partner Aeromexico introduces a Basic fare product as part of its new suite of branded fares on U.S.-Mexico routes.
Expanding Basic Economy is one more way Delta is providing customers more choice and control in their travel. The product is designed for price-conscious customers traveling through Mexico who want Delta’s high-quality cabin experience.
Delta first introduced Basic Economy products in 2012 for price-conscious customers looking for great seat value who don’t mind where they sit. Customers who purchase a Basic Economy fare product enjoy the same flight experience as Main Cabin customers, including Delta’s world-class service, a Main Cabin seat, complimentary snacks, Wi-Fi for purchase and free access to hours of movies, shows and more on Delta Studio®, but with restrictions related to the ticket transaction. Complimentary beer, wine and spirits are also available in Main Cabin on long-haul international flights while complimentary meals are available on select long-haul domestic and international flights.
Delta’s Mexico Basic Economy product mirrors its domestic Basic Economy product that includes these restrictions:
- Passengers will not receive a seat assignment until after check-in or at the gate.
- Passengers traveling together, including families, may not be seated together.
- Basic Economy products are not changeable or refundable after the Risk-Free Cancellation Period . This includes same-day changes.
- Basic Economy customers will board in the last zone.
- Passengers flying Basic Economy are not eligible for paid or complimentary upgrades or preferred seats, even with SkyMiles Medallion status. However, SkyMiles Members still earn miles, Medallion Qualification Miles and Medallion Qualification Dollars.
- Basic Economy products are not eligible to combine with other Delta fare products.
Delta’s Mexico expansion is part of Delta’s ongoing effort to make Basic Economy products available in more international markets. In December 2017, Delta announced Basic Economy is now available for purchase on more than 50 percent of Delta’s flights between North America and Europe. That announcement coincided with the launch of a similar basic fare product by partners Air France-KLM and Alitalia.
This latest expansion is part of the airline’s efforts to provide more access to its multi-billion dollar investment in the global customer experience that includes a cabin modernization program featuring new seats, seatback entertainment systems with free entertainment, free mobile messaging, high-capacity overhead bins, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, free Main Cabin meals on select flights, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, an Alessi-designed collection of serviceware, Westin Heavenly® In-Flight Bedding, chef-curated meals paired with wines hand-selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson, noise-canceling LSTN headphones, integrated wayfinding maps in the Fly Delta app, and more.
Additionally, Delta has made significant investments in the customer experience on the ground. These include new Delta Sky Club locations in Denver, Atlanta, and Seattle, and Club renovations in Nashville, Dallas, Newark, and Minneapolis-St. Paul, airport enhancement programs in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and Salt Lake City, and the testing and implementation of an enhanced boarding process in Atlanta. Delta also plans to add nearly 250 new aircraft to its fleet in coming years.
