Customers traveling to and from San Jose, Costa Rica, are advised to visit www.delta.com for an updated status on flight departures to and from Atlanta and Los Angeles airports to the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose after volcanic ash from the Turrialba volcano triggered the temporary closure of the San Jose airport.
Delta is offering a waiver for change fees on Sept. 20-21 for travel booked by Sept. 26.
The volcano erupted twice on Monday, at dawn and before noon, and the second eruption sent an ash cloud 4,000 meters into the air. The volcano stands 35 kilometers from the capital. Delta operates 2 non-stop daily flights from San Jose to Atlanta and 1 non-stop daily flight from San Jose to Los Angeles.
Customers can also track their flights and set up flight notifications with the Fly Delta App.
