Delta’s Heart Walk team has been named the No. 2 fundraising team in the nation, with proceeds benefitting the American Heart Association.

“Raising funds and generating awareness for the American Heart Association is a personal passion of mine,” Paul Jacobson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, wrote in a memo to employees worldwide.  “As this year’s Chairman of the Heart Walk, we challenged ourselves with two ambitious goals – and the Delta family not only answered, but exceeded all expectations.”

For the first time, the Delta team earned the top fundraising spot in Metro Atlanta. In addition, the Delta team exceeded its goal of $400,000 by raising more than $470,000.

“This is an incredible accomplishment and I want to thank all of our employees for the work you are doing to make a difference in the way of heart health,” Jacobson wrote. “With this milestone, we have now raised more than four times the amount of last year’s donations.”  

Nearly 300 Delta employees and their friends and family members participated in this year’s Metro Atlanta Heart Walk in September. Delta achieved the No. 1 fundraising spot in its hometown for the first time in the walk’s 13-year history. Delta people have participated in the Heart Walk for the past five years.

“Your resilient spirit and commitment to making a difference in the communities where we live, work and serve is admirable,” Jacobson said. “With these donations, the American Heart Association will continue their mission of combating heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, which claim more than 800,000 lives per year and touch most of us in some way.”

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
