Delta’s sponsorship of the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest will support not only the music of today, but the music of tomorrow.

Delta’s support of JazzFest, held March 23-26 at Bahia Urbana in Old San Juan, will allow six local students to travel to Boston to receive training at Berklee College of Music, the world’s largest music university. Through seminars, the students will learn about harmony, improvisation and musical performance.

Since its founding 22 years ago, the “Berklee en Puerto Rico” scholarship program at Heineken JazzFest has helped to raise $6.5 million supporting the musical development of almost 3,000 Puerto Rican students.

“Contributing to education is one of the ways Delta wants to make a difference in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Jose “Pepe” Zapata, Delta’s General Manager-Central America and the Caribbean. “Delta is proud to support the development of the Puerto Rican musicians of the future, who will continue to bring to honor our Latin American roots with their artistic expressions.”

This edition of the festival will be dedicated to the Panamanian musician Danilo Pérez. As a composer, cultural ambassador and promoter of jazz in all of its manifestations, this artist has demonstrated a firm commitment to educating young people over the last 25 years. The Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest has shared and maintained the same commitment throughout its history.

The JazzFest will also host a top-notch musical performance, with headliners such as the world renowned New Orleans pianist Ellis Marsallis and his quartet; one of the greatest Latin jazz musicians Bobby Valentin; and one of the new faces of modern jazz, the Puerto Rican singer iLe, among others.
