Delta has been named the international business class winner in Global Traveler's annual Wine on the Wings competition.
Global Traveler selected a panel of more than 20 wine professionals to oversee this year's competition. The judges conducted a blind taste test of wines submitted by airlines around the world, giving each wine a score based on its taste and quality. When the scores were tallied, Delta rose to the top as the highest scorer among international business class selections.
"This award speaks to our efforts to continuously elevate the onboard dining experience for our customers," said Lisa Bauer, Vice President — On-Board Services at Delta. "From recognizable brands for the occasional wine drinker to surprising selections from small, artisanal wineries for the most discerning of wine enthusiasts – our robust wine program has something to offer for everyone."
Delta's wine offerings are carefully curated by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson. Her wine selection is a year-round process that includes in-flight tastings to make sure the wines taste just as good at cruising altitude as they do on the ground.
Delta's wine menu changes throughout the year, rotating seasonally to pair perfectly with the latest inflight meals. Current offerings include seasonally inspired and regionally sourced wines like Pazo de Villarei Albariño and Ritual Pinot Noir in the Delta One cabin.
Delta's wine menu is part of the airline's multi-billion dollar investment in the overall customer experience. In the past several years, the airline has made significant enhancements to the Main Cabin experience including free Main Cabin meals on select coast-to-coast routes, free mobile messaging, free in-flight entertainment, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, the addition of sparkling wine, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, enhanced blankets and refreshed Flight Fuel food-for-purchase options. Recent upgrades to the Delta One in-flight experience include new chef-designed Delta One menus curated by Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo for flights from LAX, refreshed TUMI amenity kits with Kiehl's products, and an Alessi-designed collection of serviceware.
