Delta's government affairs team joined together in a grassroots effort to end homelessness in our nation's Capital on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.

The Delta team joined hundreds of others in the annual Walk to end homelessness, which started at the base of the Lincoln Memorial and wound around the reflection pool to the World War II Memorial and back.

The walk not only raises awareness about homelessness in the Capital region, but raises money for Friendship Place –a leader in Washington, D.C. in developing innovative solutions to homelessness that has demonstrable results and a lasting impact.

"Our mission of no one better connects the world couldn't ring more true in times like these," said Heather Wingate, Delta's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. "Working with an organization that builds personal programs that empowers participants to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs and reconnect with friends, family and their communities is something we are proud to be a part of."

Money raised from the annual walk helps to fund Friendship Place's Drop-In Center, which provides food and medical care. It also helps maintain a housing program that uses the "Housing First" model and places participants directly into their own homes before addressing the full range of their needs with ongoing case management and an innovative job placement program. It also provides homelessness prevention and a rapid rehousing program for veterans and their families.
