- Employees donated 10,338 pints of blood in fiscal year 2020
- The company hosted 208 blood drives across 50 locations system wide
- Six new blood drive locations were added in the past year
Delta, for the third consecutive year, is the No. 1 American Red Cross corporate U.S. blood donor. Delta employees, retirees and customers donated 10,338 lifesaving blood donations during the 2020 fiscal year (ending June 30). Delta hosted 208 blood drives across 50 locations, including six new locations added this year.
Even as many blood drives have been cancelled due to the pandemic, Delta employees remain steadfast in their commitment to safely give through Delta-sponsored blood drives. Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control to help keep donors safe during the pandemic.
“What better way to give of yourself, especially when the need is so great, than to give the gift of life by donating blood. Thank you to all the Delta people who make a difference and roll up their sleeves to give blood to help save lives all year long, and a special thank you to our blood drive coordinators for their commitment to making every drive count,” said Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director – Community Engagement.
Giving blood remains essential and the need is greater than ever due to so many drives being cancelled and as hospitals resume surgical procedures and patient treatments that were paused .
“The Red Cross is grateful to Delta and its people for their continued dedication and commitment to patients across the country in need of lifesaving blood transfusions-- especially during this challenging time,” said Chris Hrouda, President, American Red Cross Biomedical Services. “Unlike other medical treatments, blood cannot be stockpiled, and generous blood donors are the only source for those in need.”
In addition to blood donations, Delta is an Annual Disaster Giving Program donor at the $1 million level, allowing the American Red Cross to be strategic and proactive in disaster response. The American Red Cross is Delta's longest standing not-for-profit partnership dating back to World War II.
