AAA predicts a 1.5 percent increase in the number of Americans flying over the Fourth of July holiday weekend as overall travel will climb to 3.2 million people.

Overall travel during the holiday weekend running from July 1- 5 is expected to increase 0.7 percent to 41.9 million from 41.6 million in 2014, according to AAA, which based its prediction on research and forecasts from HIS Global Insight.

Delta is expected to carry more than 2.5 million customers systemwide during the holiday weekend, with aircraft at or above 90 percent full on Thursday.
