Delta took home a 2015 Xcelence Award last week recognizing two Minneapolis facilities with the largest electric savings by a commercial business. The award was presented by Xcel Energy, a major U.S. electric and natural gas company, at the 2016 Energy Efficiency EXPO.
“Corporate Real Estate worked with Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and Xcel Energy on two energy savings projects,” said James Nhan, Manager – Corporate Real Estate Facilities, Minneapolis. “We are always looking at our facilities to find updates that can make them more sustainable. In 2015, we replaced an aging compressed-air system and updated the cooling towers in a local data center.”
Delta received more than $270,000 in rebates from Xcel Energy and will annually save more than 3,400,000 kWh of electricity – the equivalent to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from an average passenger vehicle driving 5,582,080 miles, or 2,500 round trip drives from Minneapolis to Atlanta.
"This award is the result of a collaborative team effort of all involved, including Facilities Maintenance, IT Facilities and our maintenance service providers,” Nhan said.
Delta continues to cut energy costs by using electric-powered tugs, updating Atlanta facilities for energy efficiencies and involving employees in finding new ways to cut energy usage.
