History
- Delta began serving Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1984. The city became a hub for Delta in 2008 after a merger with Northwest Airlines. Northwest initiated the country’s first closed-cabin passenger service at Minneapolis-St. Paul on July 5, 1927.
- In 1947, Northwest Orient began service from the Twin Cities to Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Manila via Edmonton, Anchorage and Shemya, Alaska.
- In 1991, Northwest and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines launched their first joint service, including twice-weekly flights between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Amsterdam.
Other Facts
- In addition to airport operations, Delta maintains significant support facilities in the Twin Cities. The company is a major employer in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, with employees at a MSP-based reservations center, information technology center and the headquarters for Delta Connection, Endeavor Air, Compass Airlines and Mesaba Airlines.
