Delta carried a total of 16.8 million passengers in August, 4.6 percent more than the same period last year.

The airline’s record-breaking operational performance continued with Delta people driving a remarkable 99.8 percent mainline completion factor and on-time performance of 85.5percent for the month.

Delta reported a 6.5 percent drop in consolidated passenger unit revenues for August, consistent with recent trends of pressure from foreign exchange, lower surcharges in international markets and yields in select domestic markets. Additionally, unit revenues were negatively impacted due to the timing of Labor Day holiday travel this year.

Note: A previous version of this article mistakenly said Delta's system capacity growth had gone up 4.6 percent.
