No airline “has moved as swiftly or aggressively as Delta” in adopting safety procedures, from mask mandates to seat-blocking to deep cleaning, the influential travel website The Points Guy announced Thursday.

TPG chose Delta for its 2020 “Spotlight on Safety” Editor’s Choice award. Read TPG’s rundown of the award criteria here.

“From the beginning of the pandemic, Delta was my top suggestion when anyone asked which carrier was safest to fly. From quickly adding electrostatic spraying before every flight to committing to blocking middle seats through early 2021, the airline has led with a smart, flyer-friendly approach,” wrote TPG Editor-at-Large Zach Honig.

“It’s this consistency and dedication to minimizing a flyer’s risk of contracting COVID-19 that makes Delta Air Lines our pick for this safety-related component of the 2020 TPG Awards,” Honig added.

Delta’s layers of protection

The safety of our customers and employees is Delta’s top priority, and led the airline to adopt the Delta CareStandard with more than 100 protective measures, such as a mask requirement, sanitizing every flight, the use of industrial-grade HEPA air filters and comprehensive employee COVID testing. Read more about the Delta CareStandard.

Delta is continuing to adapt our layers of protection, developed with guidance from health experts including Mayo Clinic and CDC, to meet customer needs. This week, Delta extended our commitment to provide more space on board, becoming the only U.S. airline to block middle seats on flights departing through March 30, 2021.
