Leaders from across the travel industry descended on Denver last week for the Global Business Travel Association Convention, an annual event held by the world’s premier business travel and meetings organization. Delta’s Global Sales team saw it as an opportunity to continue the conversation around innovation and introduce Delta Edge Meetings.

“Delta has done a really good job of being very innovative in this industry, with a lot of industry-firsts,” Bob Somers, Senior Vice President – Global Sales explained to Michael McCormick, GBTA Executive Director & COO, during an interview at the convention. “If you go back to 1955… pioneering the hub and spoke system… and now fast-forward to the last three or four years where we really have focused on innovation.”

Bob SomersSomers received the prestigious Allied Member of the Year award at the convention. The Allied Member of the Year award is given to a GBTA member at a travel supplier who has contributed to the continued growth and knowledge of the business travel industry. He was celebrated for his commitment to driving positive change and his involvement with the GBTA Industry Advisement Council, a think tank for new ideas.

Somers’ most recent accomplishments at Delta include leading the Sales organization through five years of customer-centric innovation, with initiatives such as Delta Edge Meetings, which automatically provides corporate travel managers with Delta’s best available pricing by comparing Delta Edge Meeting discounts and their company’s corporate sales agreements, and Delta's Operational Performance Commitment, a program that commits to delivering industry-leading reliability and pays the customer if Delta falls short.
