Flight attendants Bruno from GOL and Yuri from Delta welcomed the legendary trophy of Copa America to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport this morning.  The trophy started the second leg of its Delta-sponsored tour of Latin America in coordination with alliance partners GOL and Aeroméxico.

Just a few hours ago in Mexico City, the cup garnered media attention by some of the region’s most influential publications and created a lasting impression among Delta and Aeroméxico employees as well as four V.I.P. clients who enjoyed a ‘selfie moment’ with the cup.

V.I.P. customers in Sao Paulo will have an opportunity to see the cup at private events and then the trophy will visit GOL’s headquarters at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo.

"It is an important to share a moment in history with our most loyal customers in Sao Paulo as we bring the cup for a series of signature events two weeks before the opening of the tournament," said Nicolas Ferri, Delta’s Vice President – Latin America and the Caribbean. "The cup will also visit the offices of our colleagues GOL, allowing employees to share in the excitement of the Copa America Centenario. Our business goals unite us and so does our common passion for soccer."

The Copa America is one of the most prestigious and most widely viewed sporting events in the world.  This is the first time in the tournament’s 100 years it is being held outside of Latin America, and Delta will charter the flights for the 16 teams during the U.S. matches. The Copa America Centenario tournament begins June 3 when the U.S. will play Colombia at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The cup’s journey is being tracked on social media under the hashtag #Copa100.  The trophy will return to the U.S. in time for the opening of the games.
