As Delta Meteorology saw Hurricane Irma’s track shift westward early Saturday, Delta operations professionals added 17 additional flights and deployed larger aircraft on existing flights across central and northern Florida as well as the Caribbean for a gain of 4,000 additional seats departing Florida. Delta has added more than 12,000 seats departing Florida and the Caribbean since Wednesday.

Delta has combined and consolidated waivers for customers transiting three dozen destinations where flights will be affected by Irma through Sept. 17.

Saturday’s additional flights will operate through late Saturday afternoon at Sarasota, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Atlanta. Delta will once again deploy the 747 for a second consecutive day, working two roundtrips between Detroit and Orlando.

With strong winds and extended rain expected in Atlanta Monday, Delta is recommending customers who are transiting its Atlanta hub on Monday to modify their itineraries around Atlanta on delta.com.

As Hurricane Irma churned toward Florida, Delta continued to add extra flights and upsized aircraft throughout Florida Friday, including using three of its largest international widebody aircraft, the Boeing 747, on rare domestic routes to help get customers and employees out of the Southeast. Since Wednesday, the airline has added 8,300 additional seats out of Florida and the Caribbean.

A ferry flight for employees and family members was planned from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta late Friday.

Departures from south Florida airports are expected through 7 p.m. before operations cease. Delta will continue to work closely with all aviation stakeholders to assess when flying can safely resume. Additional cancelations are expected throughout Florida airports Saturday and Sunday.

Delta has canceled 830 flights since Wednesday in anticipation of the storm's impact in the Caribbean and Florida.

Delta continues to update its operational plan for Irma, a powerful Category 4 storm, for Georgia and its hub in Atlanta. The airline has expanded its existing weather waiver to include Atlanta and other Georgia airports for customers who have travel booked through Sept. 17.

Below is an airport-by-airport outlook for Delta's operations throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas and Southeast U.S.
