A Monday weather waiver for New York City area airports has been expanded to include Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., airports.

The waiver allows customers with flexibility in their travel plans to make a one-time change to their itinerary without incurring a change fee.

By Monday afternoon, thunderstorms in these regions are expected to cause Air Traffic Control ground stops and delays up to three hours in some cases, and the airline’s connection carriers had canceled more than 130 total flights, with more likely as ground stops lead to crew duty time constraints.

As the airline’s team of meteorologists keeps an eye on ongoing weather conditions, Delta’s Strategic Planning team in the airline’s OCC is coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) help get as many flights safely in and out of these areas as possible.

Customers are encouraged to check their flight status on Delta.com or the Fly Delta Mobile App. Customers can also get updates sent directly to their mobile device or by email with One-Time Flight Notification.

Delta has issued a weather waiver for five New York City area airports ahead of forecasted inclement weather on Monday, July 22 in the Big Apple.

Anticipated thunderstorms throughout the Northeast will likely prompt Air Traffic Control initiatives and routing delays for flights in and out of the region Monday. JFK International, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty, Newburgh and White Plains are all included in the waiver.

The waiver allows customers with flexibility in their travel plans to make a one-time change to their itinerary without incurring a change fee.

Delta's team of meteorologists work around the clock to monitor incoming weather that may hamper operations, regularly sharing the most up-to-date information with teams across the airline. Using the latest weather forecasts, operations teams will make informed decisions on any potential adjustments to flight paths and scheduled departures.

Customers are encouraged to check their flight status on Delta.com or the Fly Delta Mobile App. Customers can also get updates sent directly to their mobile device or by email with One-Time Flight Notification.
