History

Delta began serving Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1984. The city became a hub for Delta in 2008 after a merger with Northwest Airlines. Northwest's initiated the country’s first closed-cabin passenger service at Minneapolis-St. Paul on July 5, 1927.
In 1947, Northwest Orient began service from the Twin Cities to Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Manila via Edmonton, Anchorage and Shemya, Alaska.
In 1991, Northwest and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines launched their first joint service, including twice-weekly flights between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Amsterdam.

Other Facts

In addition to airport operations, Delta maintains significant support facilities in the Twin Cities. The company is a major employer in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, with employees at a MSP-based reservations center, information technology center and the headquarters for Delta Connection, Compass Airlines, Mesaba Airlines and Regional Elite Airline Services.
