NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced new nonstop service between New York and Reykjavik, Iceland, beginning June 1, 2011.* When service begins, Delta will be the only U.S. carrier to serve Iceland nonstop from the United States.
The flight, between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik, will be operated with a 170-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 15 seats in BusinessElite and 155 seats in Economy.
The flight will also operate direct from Delta's hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul under the same flight number, with a stop at New York-JFK.
Delta's newest international destination from New York is part of its ongoing investment in the New York market, adding to the more than 40 new destinations introduced from LaGuardia and JFK combined in the last four years.
In recent months, Delta has added new or expanded service between New York and Amsterdam, Netherlands; Brussels, Belgium; London-Heathrow and Manchester, England; Shannon, Ireland; Stockholm, Sweden; and Copenhagen, Denmark. Delta also has announced new domestic service from New York, including new and expanded service to Nashville, Tenn.; St. Louis; Kansas City, Mo.; San Antonio; Cleveland; Charlotte, N.C.; Orange County, Calif.; Baltimore; Montreal and Toronto.
The new service does not affect Delta's previously announced capacity guidance for 2011.

The new Reykjavik flight will be operated as part of Delta's trans-Atlantic joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia, which gives customers access to a seamless network of connections in North America and the European Union.
Delta's New York to Iceland schedule:
JFK at 11:35 p.m.
Reykjavik at 9:20 a.m. (next day)
Reykjavik at 10:50 a.m.
JFK at 12:55 p.m.
*Subject to approval of the Icelandic government
Tickets are currently available for purchase from Delta, and will be available at other ticketing channels beginning Saturday, Aug. 14.
Delta's New York expansion has extended beyond new flights in recent years to include expanding BusinessElite service to transcontinental flights from JFK to Los Angeles and San Francisco, reintroducing "Red Coat" customer service ambassadors at LaGuardia and JFK and adding 2,000 jobs across New York state.
This week Delta also announced a plan to reinvent the customer dining experience at LaGuardia with the introduction of 13 new food and beverage concepts at its main terminal beginning this fall and received approval from the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey to take the next steps in implementing plans to revamp its terminal facilities at JFK. The airline plans to unveil specific details of its JFK terminal renovation plan later this month.
