GETTING AROUND THE CITY
From the airport to your hotel
With Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport sitting a little over 20 miles from city center, it's important to figure out how you plan on getting to your hotel after landing. If you're traveling light, the metro may be your best bet. Navigate to the station at Terminal 5 and find the Yellow Line, which will connect you to the King Abdullah Financial District and other key stations.
If you have a lot of luggage or are traveling with children or a larger group, you may prefer door-to-door service via a taxi or Uber. Taxis are available outside each terminal and the prices are metered. If you prefer a set price, opt for Uber or Careem, but be sure to follow airport signage to find the pick-up spot versus navigating via the app, as this causes some confusion with travelers!
Riding the metro
Riyadh is a considerably spread-out city, so one of the easiest and most reliable ways to get around is via the metro. The metro uses a color-coded system, so for first-time visitors, it can be beneficial to become familiar with the system before traveling. Tickets for the metro can be purchased at station vending machine or via the DARB app, and you can buy a single-journey ticket, unlimited day pass or rechargeable metro card.
Tip: When traveling on the metro, pay attention to signage and be aware of family and individual sections. If you want more space and a quieter experience during peak hours, consider using the First Class cabin.
Riyadh: Edge of the World
Traveling beyond Riyadh
If you're looking to visit areas outside of Riyadh, especially places like Dammam, Al Khobar or Al Ahsa, traveling via the Saudi Arabian Railway can be preferrable to domestic flights. While tickets can be purchased day of from major stations, it's recommended to buy tickets online well in advance, especially if you plan to travel on weekends or during peak periods like Hajj and Umrah. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to get to the railway station and familiarize yourself with luggage policies beforehand.

Explore some of our favorite areas to call home during your trip
Al Olaya
Best for: Luxury and business travelers and those who want to stay connected to the rest of the city. Home to the beacon of the city, the Kingdom Centre, as well as luxury shopping, fine dining and top-rated hotels, Al Olaya is the ideal spot for those who prefer to go all out on vacation. It is also well connected to Riyadh's metro network, making it easy to visit other parts of the city.
North Riyadh
Best for: Families and those interested in Riyadh's entertainment industry. What was once the desert outskirts is now a growing area that is crucial to Riyadh's Vision 2030. North Riyadh, which includes the popular Hittin district, is home to Boulevard City - a sprawling, vibrant area with entertainment zones, restaurants shops and more.
Al Malaz
Best for: Travelers wanting to experience a more historical and cultural side of Riyadh. While still close to popular amenities, this area is perfect for those who are interested in learning about the city's past at the National Museum of Saudi Arabia and the Murabba Historical Palace and enjoying authentic food at traditional restaurants.
Al Diriyah
Best for: Immersing yourself in Saudi culture. A little outside of city center, Al Diriyah is home to the mud-brick At-Turaif District, which is a UNESCO-listed heritage site that will take you back in time while providing the perfect backdrop for exploring.

Mada’in Saleh
Mada’in Saleh, also known as Hegra, is Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 2,000-year-old Nabatean city is located about 35 minutes from the city of AlUla and should be added on as an extension to your Riyadh trip if you're interested in learning more Saudi history.
Boulevard World
One of Riyadh's biggest attractions, Boulevard World features themed architecture, cuisine and entertainment that represent 24 different countries. It's best to go between October - May.

Edge of the World
One of the most stunning views you can encounter in Riyadh, Edge of the World needs to be added to your city itinerary (especially at sunset!). Because you need a 4x4 to reach this spot, it's best to book a tour.

Kingdom Centre
Get a bird's eye view of the city by venturing to the top of Riyadh's most iconic building: Kingdom Centre. After paying an admission price, visitors can take elevators to the enclosed skybridge that sits on top of the inverted arch of the skyscraper.

Dining in Riyadh

Only 15 minutes from Riyadh, this UNESCO World Heritage destination is a perfect mix of history and beautiful restaurants.

Jeddah
Venture beyond Riyadh to the coastal city of Jeddah. The second largest city in Saudi Arabia, Jeddah can easily be tacked on as a day trip if you have plans to explore the Mecca Province. Shop for souvenirs, stroll along the beach and visit the expansive Al Taybat City Museum.
