Hussein Berry, V.P. – Airport Operations DTW

Hussein Berry serves as the Vice President – Airport Operations, DTW. He is responsible for the strategic operations of Delta’s Detroit hub and 49 airport operations within the U.S. Central & Southeast Regions. This includes 10,000 Delta & business partner employees and over 1,100 daily departures. He is also the executive sponsor of Delta’s global baggage strategy and operation. Hussein reports to Erik Snell, Senior Vice President – Airport Customer Service (ACS), Cargo Operations, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Global Clean. 

Hussein began his career on the frontline pushing wheelchairs, working on the ramp, and in customer service. He went on to hold various leadership positions within finance and operations in Detroit, Atlanta and New York’s JFK airport. Hussein serves on Delta’s Executive DEI Council and as the executive sponsor for Delta’s YALLAH Business Resource Group, representing employees who identify as part of the many cultures and 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. He is known for continuous improvement strategies that have strongly contributed to Delta’s competitive position in the industry. 

Hussein holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Davenport University and two post-graduate degrees from Wayne State University, an MBA and master of science, industrial engineering. He also received an honorary doctorate of commercial science from Eastern Michigan University for his life achievements after participating as the keynote speaker in the 2023 spring commencements. 

In the community, Hussein spearheaded efforts to fundraise over $1 million for the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital. He serves on the Regional Detroit Chamber of Commerce, Detroit Economic Club Board of Directors, and the Regional Detroit Sub-Committee Board for Racial Justice & Economic Equity Board. Hussein was also honored by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce as the 2020 Professional of the Year and by Wayne State University as their College of Engineering Hall of Fame inductee in 2024.
