VIDEO: Delta joins thousands in Ghana at annual Breast Care International Walk for the Cure

The streets of Kumasi, Ghana turned into a sea of pink and white as an estimated 30,000 survivors, healthcare professionals, students, traditional leaders and advocates marched side by side for the 13th Annual Breast Care International Walk for the Cure earlier this month. Delta was again the title sponsor of the event, which is aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer and advocating for early detection, especially for women in rural communities throughout West Africa.

In the ten years that Delta has partnered with BCI, more than 20,000 Ghanaians have been screened, nearly 2,000 suspected cases that might otherwise have gone undetected were identified and more than 150,000 people were educated on breast cancer awareness. Targeted campaigns have also brought free screenings to over 65,000 women in rural areas, expanding healthcare access to underserved communities.

“At Delta, we believe our purpose extends beyond connecting cities—it’s about connecting with people and supporting the communities we serve,” said Michael Thomas, General Manager of Delta Global Communications. “Our partnership with BCI has allowed us to reach thousands of women and families across Ghana with life-saving education and screenings.”

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Founder and President of BCI, praised Delta’s continued support. “Breast cancer affects entire communities, not just individuals. Delta’s consistent partnership has helped us bring education and screening directly to the doorsteps of women, especially in underserved areas,” she said. “Together, we are saving lives and giving hope.”

Delta’s participation in the walk coincides with the airline’s centennial and its 19th year serving Ghana. The airline recently introduced the next generation Airbus A330-900neo on its route between Atlanta and Accra, and for the winter, Delta will launch an additional seasonal flight. The additional frequency means expanded travel options for customers, especially during the popular “Detty December,” a period when the country sees a significant influx of tourists and returning diaspora who come for cultural celebrations, music festivals, street parties and other popular events.

“As we celebrate a century of service, we’re reminded that the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured in miles, but in the lives we touch,” Thomas added. “Walking alongside survivors and advocates today is a privilege, and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that make a real difference.”
