Dr. King's dream fostered ideals that Delta aspires to today – embracing our core values that fuel our mission to connect, reflect, respect the world we serve. Our careful investment in equitable strategies has driven a greater impact not only within Delta but also in the communities where we live, work, and serve.
Ahead of the MLK Days of Service, Amal Yusuf, GM for ACS at Delta, visited 11Alive to speak about Delta’s commitment to volunteerism and the importance of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy and amplifying his vision. “Delta’s values align so closely with Dr. King’s message of peace, justice, and inclusion, and we look at the days of service as a way to turn those values into meaningful action,” said Amal, adding, “I think this is a wonderful way to start our Centennial year.”
Over 300 employee volunteers came together to execute 11 community service activations in communities nationwide, including Anchorage, Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, and Seattle. Activities ranged from meal packing to visiting children’s hospitals, community clean-ups, and even a march to celebrate Dr. King’s achievements and contribute toward his vision of a Beloved Community.
The following community partners supported Delta in curating these opportunities to serve:
- Children’s Hospital LA
- Food Bank of Alaska
- Food Lifeline
- Freestore Foodbank
- Hands on Atlanta
- Junior Achievement Finance Park
- MLK Day March
- The King Center
- Utah Community Action
- YMCA 17th Annual MLK Breakfast
- YMCA of SoFL
In addition, 200+ Delta colleagues and BOLD BRG members, along with allies across 10 cities volunteered on Jan. 15 for D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) Martin Reading Day, where volunteers read Martin’s Big Words to second and third-grade students in Atlanta Public Schools.
