Powered by our people: Celebrating Delta’s Aviation Maintenance Technicians

Each year on May 24, AMT Day recognizes the essential role maintenance professionals play across the industry. At Delta, it’s a moment to highlight the work of nearly 7,000 AMTs across TechOps.

Before every Delta flight departs, a technician signs their name to one critical decision: it’s ready to fly. These are Delta’s Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) -- FAA-certified professionals who hold Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) licenses and are responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance that keep Delta aircraft safe and reliable.

Each year on May 24, AMT Day recognizes the essential role maintenance professionals play across the industry. At Delta, it’s a moment to highlight the work of nearly 7,000 AMTs across TechOps.

Their work spans every corner of the operation – from routine maintenance in the hangar to installing Delta One seats in an aircraft. But no matter the setting, the focus is the same: consistency, discipline and attention to detail. Our AMTs deliver maintenance for both Delta’s fleet and our third-party customers—performing in-house heavy maintenance on hundreds of mainline aircraft each year, along with engine and component support for thousands more across the system.

“Most customers will never see the teams in neon vests working around the aircraft or the technicians inside our hangars,” said David Thompson, SVP – Technical Operations. “But every safe flight reflects the judgment and expertise of our AMTs. They are foundational to everything Delta does."

For AMTs, the work carries a clear sense of accountability. In celebration of AMT Day, this video provides a chance to hear from some of Delta’s own AMTs about what being an AMT at Delta means to them and get an exclusive look behind the scenes at some of the work Delta AMTs do every day to keep Delta flying.

This day celebrates Delta’s AMTs and the work our aviation maintenance professionals do every day to power Delta to the next 100 years. As Delta steps into the next century of flight, the next generation of AMTs continues to be defined by their commitment to safety, which is at the center of every decision we make.
