Two years after the start of their Joint Venture, Delta and the LATAM group review and report that since 2022, the partnership has allowed them to grow by 68% in flights. This translates to 6 new routes, more than 32,000 flights operated, and 8 million seats between the United States and Canada (North America) and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay).

Additionally, the Joint Venture has allowed the transportation of more than 5 million passengers covering a total distance of more than 110 million miles, which exceeds the distance from Earth to the Sun.

“The aforementioned capacity growth, combined with the more than 200 destinations offered by Delta in the United States and Canada and the more than 120 offered by LATAM in South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay), makes the Joint Venture play a fundamental role in connecting the region, offering the largest and most diverse network in terms of destinations and travel options,” says Soledad Berrios, Director of Strategic Alliances at the LATAM group.

Some of the most important milestones during the second year of the agreement were the incorporation of Ecuador into the Joint Venture’s coverage in South America for travel to North America and the inclusion of exclusively cargo flights in the Joint Venture.

With Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), and Orlando (MCO) as gateways in North America, and Bogotá (BOG), Cartagena (CTG), Fortaleza (FOR), Lima (LIM), Quito (UIO), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Santiago (SCL), and São Paulo (GRU) as gateways in South America, the Delta-LATAM Joint Venture operated up to 25 direct routes in these first 2 years, connecting key cities on both continents, including the seasonal Santiago-Orlando route, launched this year.

“Celebrating two years of our Delta-LATAM Joint Venture, we are proud not only of the record 68% increase in flights and the fruitful partnership we have established with LATAM, but above all of the trust that 5 million customers have placed in the world-class and dedicated service we strive to provide every day,” said Alex Antilla, Delta’s Vice President for Latin America. “Together, we are not just connecting the two continents – we are redefining the travel journey. As we continue to expand and innovate, our vision is clear: to be the preferred airline partnership for passengers flying between North and South America, delivering unmatched experiences for every traveler.”

THE DELTA-LATAM JOINT VENTURE

Currently operating six new routes since receiving final approval of the Joint Venture in 2022 (Atlanta-Cartagena and the seasonal New York JFK-Rio de Janeiro route, operated by Delta, and Bogotá-Orlando, São Paulo-Los Angeles, the seasonal Santiago-Orlando, and Quito-Miami routes, operated by the LATAM group), as well as reinforcing routes with additional frequencies, such as the addition of a second daily frequency on Atlanta-Bogotá (Delta) and Lima-Atlanta (LATAM).

Additionally, Delta and LATAM have focused on offering a simpler and better travel experience. At the airport, passengers find a more expedited check-in process, being able to check their luggage to the final destination, as well as shared terminals in New York-JFK, São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, optimizing the time for connecting passengers.

Moreover, passengers can access greater benefits such as joint accumulation of miles or points in frequent flyer programs or access to more than 53 Delta Sky Clubs in the United States and five LATAM lounges mainly in South America (Santiago, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Bogotá, and Miami). In the first quarter of 2025, LATAM will inaugurate its first VIP lounge at Lima Airport, providing even more convenience and comfort for customers departing from the Peruvian capital. There are also a series of reciprocal benefits for elite customers of the Delta SkyMiles and LATAM Pass loyalty programs, such as priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling, and additional baggage allowance, among other advantages.

Delta and LATAM expect to continue announcing new routes and greater benefits in the coming months to further enhance the travel experience for those traveling between North America and South America.
