The episode takes place in the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where Bostic showcased the important work the Federal Reserve Bank does on a daily basis. Their conversation covered leadership, institutional barriers, the economy, birdwatching and, of course, cash.

Raphael W. Bostic took office in 2017 as the 15th president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He is the first Black and openly gay Federal Reserve Bank president in the Federal Reserve System.

He is responsible for all the bank's activities, including monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and payment services. He serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the monetary policymaking body of the Federal Reserve System.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Prior to his work at the Federal Reserve, Bostic had an illustrious career at the University of Southern California and  previously served as the assistant secretary for policy development and research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He also worked at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, first as an economist and then as a senior economist in the monetary and financial studies section, where his work on the Community Reinvestment Act earned him a special achievement award.You may read more about Raphael Bostic on the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta website.

Bostic will be the eighth guest invited by Bastian to appear on Gaining Altitude. The second season of the series premiered with Arthur M. Blank and conversations continued on the new mini series, On The Fly with Sir Richard Branson.
