A sunset view of South Beach, Miami, complemented with neon signage and palm trees.

1. South Beach: The Pulse of the City

No other location captures Miami’s spirit like South Beach. This well-known sand stretch is a cultural epicentre brimming with architectural art-deco style and lively enthusiasm. South Beach transforms into a nightlife aficionado's playground once the sun sets. Beachfront bars and glitzy nightclubs, such as “LIV,” resemble Lagos nightlife with their abundance of dining options and energetic dance floors.

Visit Ocean Drive, a well-known boulevard in South Beach that comes alive as the night falls. The vintage-inspired district is dotted with neon lights, classic vehicles and palm trees, making for a picture-perfect setting. Savour tropical drinks while dining outdoors at notable restaurants and taking in the lively ambiance that evokes memories of Lagos' busy lifestyle.

2. Little Havana and more: Explore Multicultural Communities

Little Havana captures the Cuban American experience like few other communities can, offering authentic cuisine, festivities and cultural experiences.

Among the must-visit destinations in this enchanting enclave are the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, which honours influential Cuban artists, and Café La Trova, a celebrated restaurant renowned for its exquisite culinary offerings like seared foie gras and rabo encendido pasta.

For more multicultural experiences, check out Allapattah – a classic Dominican neighbourhood and Little Haiti for delectable cuisine and fascinating nightlife. Learn more on Miami’s official website.

3. Wynwood Walls: The Greatest Experience with Art

Art enthusiasts, rejoice! This outdoor street art project turns the formerly industrial neighbourhood into a creative canvas with life-size murals by internationally recognised artists. Wynwood is an idealspot for Nigerians to explore art galleries and secure their own art piece from street sellers offering distinctive, handcrafted products. Food trucks and pop-up events are a frequent highlight of vibrant art strolls, fostering an environment of friendship reminiscent of hometown events in Lagos.

4. Bayfront Park: Urban Vibes Meet Nature

Bayfront Park is a perfect intersection between the city bustle and hearing palm trees rustle. This expansive park provides a lovely fusion of recreational opportunities and peaceful waterfront vistas. Bayfront has something to offer everyone, whether it's taking a leisurely stroll down the promenade or practicing al fresco yoga. The celebration lasts all day and night, thanks to its proximity to downtown Miami, making waterfront restaurants and entertainment easily accessible.

Julian Anugom, Director of the In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) Platform at Delta Air Lines, details his serendipitous career journey and shines light on his work in in-flight innovation.

Julian Anugom, born and raised in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, has taken an innovative role in the aviation industry. As the Director of the In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) Platform at Delta Air Lines, Anugom's journey is an inspiring tale of passion, innovation and dedication.

Before joining Delta, Anugom co-founded Connected Assurance, a consulting company, with two partners. Their expertise in connectivity solutions led them to do consultation work for the airline for about three months.

"One thing I observed during that period was how much Delta cares for its people and customers. It cannot be overstated how much Delta cares," Anugom shared.

He was equally impressed by Delta's customer-centric approach through their initiatives like fast, free Wi-Fi presented by T-Mobile and the airline’s commitment to innovation.

Delta became the first major U.S. airline to introduce fast, free Wi-Fi for all, in partnership with T-Mobile. The experience is available on most domestic mainline aircraft as of Feb. 1, with full availability on international and regional aircraft by the end of 2024.

"Coming from the vendor side, before joining Delta, I would work with other airlines and would always hear the line, 'My aircraft is not a test bed.' However, Delta actually loaned our team one of their Bombardier CRJ200 to test satellite internet connectivity back in 2021."

As the Director of IFEC Platforms, Anugom leads the development and enhancement of Delta's in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems while solving complex problems. His team has achieved remarkable milestones, including the development and launch of Delta Sync Wi-Fi and Delta Sync seatback.

Delta Sync is Delta’s personalization brand, powering the future of travel through SkyMiles® Membership. It currently encompasses two industry-leading entertainment products that have been rolling out as part of the Wi-Fi experience onboard. Delta Sync Wi-Fi is available on nearly 700 aircraft and brings streaming-quality connectivity to the sky on personal devices. Delta Sync seatback is available on more than 300 aircraft and elevates Delta’s industry-leading seatback screens to make them feel more like smart TVs.

Anugom’s team is continuing to develop new systems to equip Delta’s entire global fleet with free and reliable connectivity soon.
