Delta builds 2nd KABOOM! playground in Boston, with special welcome from local and state leaders
Delta is proud to support KABOOM! in its goal to end play space inequality by uniting with communities to build intentional play spaces that spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for children who are often denied opportunities to thrive.
On Saturday, September 14, more than 100 Delta and local community volunteers came together to build Delta’s 41stKABOOM! playground and the second in the greater Boston area. Delta partnered with the Revere Housing Authority to build a playground to serve hundreds of children in the Revere community.
In July, children who are residents of the Revere Housing Authority participated in Design Day, where they illustrated and presented their dream playground, with the help of Delta volunteers and KABOOM! Project Managers. This volunteer-driven initiative brought together Delta employees and local residents, united in a shared vision to provide a safe, accessible, modern play space for children to learn, grow and be physically active.
Throughout the day, Boston’s government officials attended the build, including Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Revere Mayor Patrick M. Keefe, Jr. and members of the Massachusetts Legislature. “Delta has 3,500 employees here, it’s a major hub in Boston and we’re thrilled to have you,” said Lieutenant Governor Driscoll while addressing attendees, “but the idea that we have Delta here with KABOOM! building a playground says that we’re not just here as an economic driver, we’re here for community benefit.”
The playground was completed in six hours and included a multi-dimensional play structure with two slides and a swing set. Volunteers installed a playground and shade structures, assembled benches and picnic tables, created sidewalk games and did some light gardening. At the ribbon cutting, Revere Housing Authority was presented with a check for $10,000 from Delta by Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director of Community Engagement, Revere City Councilor Robert Haas, and Candice Stover, Delta Regional Sales Manager for New England. The contribution will assist with long-term maintenance of the playground.
“Delta’s partnership with KABOOM! reflects our broader commitment to fostering belonging and well-being in the communities we serve,” said Tad Hutcheson, adding, “every child deserves the opportunity to play, and we’re honored to show children we care by bringing their visions to life and creating spaces just for them.”
Delta is proud to support KABOOM! in its goal to end play space inequality by uniting with communities to build intentional play spaces that spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for children who are often denied opportunities to thrive. Since the start of our almost 11-year partnership, Delta volunteers have helped build 41 KABOOM! playgrounds across the country.
