Last month, more than 130 volunteers from Delta Air Lines, BCD Travel, Embarcadero Apartments, the City of College Park, Favor House and KABOOM! came together to build Delta’s 43rd playground. This is the tenth playground Delta has built in the Atlanta area since the partnership began in 2013 and was part of Delta’s Global Sales annual conference: Connect 2025.

The new playspace, located at Embarcadero Apartments in College Park, Ga., offers a safe, accessible place to be physically active, learn and grow for approximately 400 children living in the apartment complex and is accessible to the public to enjoy. During the event, residents of the neighborhood pitched in to assist with the playground build, pointing out how excited their families were to have a modern, accessible playground.

“Embarcadero has always been the center of activity in our community,” said Bianca Motley Broom, Mayor of College Park. “We know that Delta isn’t just the company that takes us all across the globe; they actually bring people to help make our community better. I can’t think of a better corporate partner for our community.”
Delta Global Sales leaders Bob Somers, SVP – Global Sales, and Shawn Cole, VP- Global Sales, participated in the project and led teams throughout the day in not only building the playground but also building benches, painting, pouring concrete and participating in the closing ceremonies. Councilman Joe Carn from the City of College Park, who was involved in the yearlong planning process for the playground, was also in attendance.

At the Closing events, Councilman Carn said, “Delta is a great company, and this is such a blessing for the City of College Park, home of Hartsfield-Jackson, the busiest airport on earth. We’re going to encourage people in this community to fly with Delta, because Delta is investing in our community.”

The playground, completed in just six hours, includes a multi-dimensional play structure with slides, a rock-climbing wall and a variety of swings including the accessibility-friendly FLEXX™ swing -- the first one to be installed in Georgia. The volunteers also completed side projects for the complex, including painting the basketball court, creating walkways, planting flowers and building a pergola shade structure. At the ribbon cutting, Favor House was surprised with a check for $10,000 from Delta.

Delta is proud to support KABOOM! in its goal to end play space inequality by uniting with communities to build kid-designed playspaces that can spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for the children who are often denied opportunities to thrive. As part of our partnership, which reached its 10-year anniversary in 2023, Delta volunteers have helped build 43 KABOOM! playgrounds around the country.
