Matthew Knopf joined Delta in 2015 as its Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel. He leads the Corporate Transactions, Aircraft Transactions & Finance, SEC & Corporate Governance and Corporate Real Estate legal teams at Delta.

Matthew has played a leadership role in the successful completion of Delta’s significant transactions since joining Delta and also in the successful restructurings of Delta’s key joint venture partners as they surmounted COVID-related challenges to their business. He is deeply committed to the professional development of all of the members of the Law Department and has had the privilege, since joining Delta, to help lead one of the finest in-house law departments in the world.

Matthew joined Delta from the international law firm of Dorsey & Whitney in Minneapolis, where he was a partner in the Corporate Group and led Dorsey’s firm-wide Mergers and Acquisitions practice.

Matthew received his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University in New York, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. He has been recognized as one of the country’s leading corporate and business lawyers including by Chambers USA and Super Lawyers.

Matthew and his wife, Terri Bonoff, relocated to Atlanta after Matthew joined Delta and have become very involved in the Atlanta community supporting a number of charitable endeavors. He and his wife have four grown children and two grandchildren. While none live in Atlanta, they feel fortunate that all live in Delta hubs, so they are easy to visit frequently.
