For Delta, the holidays are a bustling time to connect millions of customers with the people and places they love most – a connection that is deeply personal for flight attendants Laura and Bethany Romzick. 

The Atlanta-based mother and daughter duo have nearly 30 years of combined experience at Delta, with Laura working in the airport before she became a flight attendant in 2008. Inspired by her mom, Bethany became a flight attendant just a few years later in 2011. 

That same year, their own version of a holiday tradition began on July Fourth. Separate trips to London aligned, with perfectly timed layovers allowing them time to explore the city together. Since then, they have overlapped schedules for more than a dozen holidays together in some fashion, including Thanksgivings and Christmases.   

“This job can definitely get lonely, especially over the holidays,” Bethany said. “Not everyone is as lucky as me to have the chance to work with their mom, so we enjoy the time when we fly together, catch up on a layover or say a quick ‘hi’ in the airport.”    

Occasionally, Laura’s husband, Mark, joins his wife and daughter as a customer when they’re working the same flight. One Thanksgiving, Mark was seated in the same cabin both women were assigned to, making it a particularly memorable holiday for all of them. 

“We got to cater to dad throughout the flight,” said Bethany. “I am the only child, and I am so lucky to have such a great relationship with my parents. We just have a blast together, and I enjoy being able to experience the world with them during this special time of year.” 

Even when they can’t work the same flight, Bethany and Laura still try to find ways to end up in the same city through careful planning of layovers or even just a leisure trip.  

Mom and daughter find opportunities to be together on the ground, too: Both are involved in training new flight attendants, and they live just down the street from each other. 

This year, the duo worked a flight together to London a few days before the Thanksgiving, returning to the U.S. on the actual holiday to be with family. Around Christmas time, they will be working together on a flight to Paris on December 22, with the return scheduled for Christmas eve.  

“Bethany is such a special lady,” said Laura. “It’s been so fun to share this experience with her over the years – all the places we’ve gone and things we’ve seen – we are grateful for this opportunity Delta provides us.”
