Media Kit and Fact Sheet: Delta's LAX Investment
DELTA’S INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT COAST TO COAST
- Delta has spent the past decade investing more than $12 billion in airport hubs across the U.S., cementing our commitment to modernize and transform the travel experience. These facilities aren’t just beautiful and new – they're also expertly designed for optimal efficiency and speed, allowing travelers to navigate quickly, easily and intuitively.
THE DELTA SKY WAY PROJECT
- Delta and Los Angeles World Airports are jointly investing $2.3 billion at LAX to build a brand-new, state-of-the-art terminal that will connect Terminals 2 and 3 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal – delivering an upgraded, next-gen customer experience. (View the press release in PDF format or in a dynamic visual presentation.)
- In partnership with the Transportation Security Administration, qualifying customers departing LAX can choose to use the latest facial recognition technology to check bags, pass through security and board their flight completely hands-free through use of their digital identity (made up of a customer’s SkyMiles Member number, passport number and Known Traveler).
- The Delta Sky Way at LAX project is on target to be completed in 2023, with Terminals 2 and 3 consolidated into a 1.2-million-square-foot, state-of-the-art, 27-gate complex.
- Delta’s new facility will consolidate operations and feature a centralized check-in lobby, as well as an expanded security checkpoint and baggage claim area, to create a more efficient and seamless experience for our customers.
- The complete project will be delivered 18 months early. In all, 6.1 million labor hours have been put into the program, with 29.7% of total labor hours being from local hires and 30.4% of spend with diverse suppliers.
- The Delta Sky Club at LAX will be one of the largest in our system, featuring over 30,000 square feet of premium space including an indoor/outdoor double bar, a year-round outdoor Sky Deck, premium showers and more, for customers to relax and recharge before, during or after their travels.
- All building systems are designed to meet CalGreen 2016 and will be LEED Silver Certified, because building a sustainably focused facility was just as important as creating a more efficient travel experience.
- Key sustainability features include low-flow water fixtures, recycling of over 75% of construction waste, use of low-emitting materials for interior spaces for good indoor air quality, and implementation of a cool roof to reduce the heat island effect and maximize air conditioning energy use.
